How to Prepare for a Breast Lift

 

After we learn your medical history, conduct a physical exam, and approve you for the surgery, we might require or recommend you to:

  • Get a mammogram
  • Stop smoking

What to Expect From the Surgery

 

Mayo Clinic dictates that your doctor might make an incision around the nipple, down from the nipple to the crease of the breast, or across the breasts.

We may insert stitches in the breasts to reshape them or reduce the size of the nipples. Once we remove the excess skin and raise the nipples, we bring the breasts together. Your doctor will close the incisions with skin adhesives, tape, or sutures.

This procedure should last about two or three hours.

What the Days After a Breast Lift
Might Feel Like

 

You should notice a change in your breasts almost immediately. However, they can take a few months to completely settle into their new shape.

After the surgery, it’s totally normal to feel sore or have red lumps, especially around the incision marks, for up to two weeks. Numbness in and around the nipples is also common.

You’ll wear a surgical support bra for about three or four days. Then, we’ll have you move on to wearing a soft support bra for three or four weeks. It depends on how well you’re healing.
